BOTOX® for chronic migraine helps prevent the recurrence of headache in some patients. It is especially effective in alleviating the recurrence of chronic migraine.

At Nashville Neuroscience Group, BOTOX® is one of the many prescription medications in our preventive treatment arsenal. If you suffer from chronic migraine, and you have 15 or more headache days each month with headache lasting four or more hours per day, then you may be a candidate BOTOX® injections for migraines. Your physician will assess your complete medical history, including any other health conditions and all drugs you are taking, before administering BOTOX®.

When injected into the muscles of the brow, eyes, forehead, side of the head and back of the head (near the neck), BOTOX® has been proven to relieve both the frequency and severity of migraine attacks. Although serious side effects have been reported, BOTOX® treatment for migraines may cause fewer side effects than many of the medications generally used to prevent this condition.

Here is what you can expect from BOTOX® injections for migraines:
  • You receive the injections in your doctor’s office.
  • BOTOX® is injected into seven key areas of the head and neck.
  • Treatment takes about the same amount of time as a regular doctor visit.
  • The needles are small and sharp; you may feel tiny pinpricks and experience mild discomfort.
  • No daily medication is needed, as BOTOX® is a preventive treatment.
  • As with other preventive treatments, you may not see results for several weeks.
  • Treatment is required every three months.
